Chaos surges in northeastern India after police open fires at enraged student protestors

In a tense incident in northeastern India’s Manipur, police forces reportedly opened fire on student protesters, resulting in several injuries.

The incident took place at Khwairamband Mothers Market in Imphal district on September 10.

Visuals showed chaos unfolding as students clashed with the police, some dragging barricades, others tossing bicycles, and many causing significant damage to the surrounding infrastructure. The scene reflected the frustration and anger of the protesting students, contributing to the widespread disorder.

According to reports, the students were demanding immediate intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to the recent attacks by Kuki militants. The protest took a violent turn when confrontations broke out between the students and the police forces attempting to control the situation. As tensions escalated, the police resorted to firing to disperse the crowd, leading to injuries among several protesters. Witnesses described scenes of panic as students fled while others were rushed to medical care.
