Earlier today, General Waker-uz-Zaman, the Bangladesh Army Chief, held a press conference at 3:30 PM IST, announcing the army’s takeover of the country and the formation of an interim government. “We understand the frustration of the people,” General Zaman stated. “The army is committed to addressing all the demands of the protestors and restoring stability.”
General Zaman, who has familial ties to Hasina, assumed leadership of the army in June and has since faced mounting challenges. The protestors’ bold actions have only added to the urgency of the situation.
The invasion of Hasina’s residence marks a significant and symbolic moment in the ongoing political crisis, emphasizing the widespread call for change and reform in Bangladesh. As the army moves to stabilize the situation, the international community remains watchful, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the upheaval.
