Chaos at junction in northern India as huge crowds overwhelm platform after recruitment exam
A railway junction in northern India’s Bihar witnessed chaotic scenes as massive crowds gathered at platform number 10 following the end of the constable recruitment exam.
The incident took place in Patna city on August 21.
Visuals showed the platform became so congested that there was barely any space to stand, forcing passengers to wait dangerously close to the tracks.
According to reports, when the Patna-Secunderabad special train arrived, the situation worsened as candidates scrambled to board the train, leading to near-miss incidents where several women narrowly avoided falling.
The situation was exacerbated by the malfunction of the escalator on platform 10, adding to the woes of women, elderly passengers, and others trying to navigate through the crowd. Passengers were seen pushing and shoving to secure a spot inside the train, with many deciding to wait for another train rather than risk the overcrowded conditions.
Rohit Kumar, a passenger trying to reach Gaya, expressed his frustration, stating that the crowd made it nearly impossible to board the train. Another passenger, Rustam Paswan, who had come to Patna for a visit, mentioned that he was prepared to hang onto the train if necessary. The heavy crowd was largely attributed to the large number of candidates returning from the constable recruitment exam, creating a difficult situation for all travelers.
