Chaos at Bangladesh High Commission: protesters tear flag, 7 arrested
A mob breached the security barricade at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, vandalizing property and removing the national flag during protest against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Das in Bangladesh.
The incident took place in Agartala, Tripura on December 2.
Visuals show a large group of protesters entering the premises of the high commission. They removed the Bangladesh flag and began pulling and tearing it. The police managed to control the situation.
According to reports, seven individuals were arrested, and three police officers were suspended for negligence. The suspended officers include sub-inspectors Dilu Jamatia and Joynal Hossain, and sergeant Debabrata Sinha. A DSP-level officer was also removed from duty. The protesters stormed the complex while a delegation was meeting with the Assistant High Commissioner.
The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the incident and deployed extra security at the Bangladesh missions across India. Bangladesh expressed strong disapproval, calling the attack “deeply regrettable.” A case has been registered, with further arrests expected.
