Celebration turns fatal as speeding car hits man lighting firecrackers in western India
In a tragic Diwali night incident in western India’s Maharashtra, a man celebrating the festival was struck by a speeding car while setting off firecrackers on the road.
The incident took place in the Ravet locality of Pimpri Chinchwad city of Pune district on November 3.
Visuals showed the cheerful celebration moments as individuals burst firecrackers in the middle of the road. Within seconds, a car, moving at a high speed, hit the man without slowing down or stopping, leaving the scene instantly after the collision. Following the impact, the man was thrown several meters away, marking a shocking end to the festivities.
According to reports, 35-year-old Soham Patel lost his life in the hit-and-run incident, captured on CCTV footage, as he was struck while lighting firecrackers. A senior police officer from the Ravet police station stated, “The victim, Soham Patel, was in the middle of the road when a speeding car ran him over.” Patel sustained fatal injuries, leading to his death, and a case has been registered against the unidentified driver.
