Catastrophic dam breach in northern India causes massive destruction and leaves employees trapped

In a severe incident in northern India’s Himachal Pradesh, a breach in the Parvati River dam has resulted in widespread destruction and a critical rescue operation.
The breach occurred at the Malana Dam Tunnel of Kullu district on August 1.
Visuals showed the rescue officials carrying out the operation, using harnesses and various rescue equipment to evacuate the stranded individuals. They were seen crossing the stream with ropes and harnesses, helping those trapped to emerge from the debris.According to reports, rescue operations have been underway since Thursday evening, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) successfully evacuating 29 employees trapped inside the dam tunnel. However, four employees remain trapped and are expected to be rescued by Friday.

Heavy rains continue to batter Kullu district, prompting the issuance of a red alert for Friday. In response to the severe weather conditions, schools in Kullu have been closed for the day.
The ongoing rescue efforts involve 20 NDRF personnel who have arrived at the site. Despite their efforts, the rescue of the remaining four employees has been hampered by darkness and adverse weather conditions. The trapped employees are reported to be struggling with hunger and thirst as the rescue team works to reach them.
