Car catches fire at petrol pump in southern India; occupants escape unharmed
In a close call at a petrol pump in southern India Karnataka, a Maruti 800 caught fire due to a suspected short circuit, but all three occupants managed to escape just before the car was engulfed in flames.
The incident took place at a petrol pump near Narayana Guru Circle in the Ladyhill area of Mangalore on November 10.
Visuals showed a car parked right next to a petrol pump engulfed in fierce flames. The workers at the petrol station quickly began dousing the car with buckets of water in an attempt to put out the fire. Thick smoke rose into the air, adding to the chaotic scene. A crowd of onlookers gathered nearby, watching anxiously as the workers fought the blaze, while others held their distance, wary of the unpredictable situation.
According to reports, fortunately, three people inside the car managed to escape in time, preventing what could have been a tragic incident. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the car engulfed in flames moments after the occupants had exited.
The petrol pump staff reacted swiftly, attempting to control the flames using buckets of water and fire extinguishers. Although the cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit, authorities are investigating to confirm this. Local fire services arrived at the scene shortly after and assisted in fully extinguishing the blaze, preventing any further damage or injuries.
Authorities have advised regular vehicle checks to prevent similar incidents and ensure safety in public spaces, especially high-risk locations like petrol pumps.
