Cab driver drags traffic inspector after document dispute in northern India
An incident of reckless behavior by a cab driver occurred in northern India’s Haryana resulted in a traffic inspector being dragged by the vehicle.
The incident took place near a bus stand in Ballabhgarh area of Faridabad district on June 21.
Visuals showed near a bus stand, a cab driver attempted to evade a traffic police officer asking for his documents. The driver sped away as the officer tried to stop him, resulting in the officer clinging onto the open door of the moving cab. Inside, frightened passengers leaped out for safety. After a short distance, the cab finally halted. The traffic officer emerged, joined by other police personnel, and together they escorted the cab driver to the nearby police station for further action.
According to witnesses, the altercation began when the traffic signal turned red and a traffic police sub-inspector requested the driver’s documents. The driver, who was illegally picking up passengers, refused to comply and suddenly accelerated, dragging the inspector for a considerable distance. Passengers in the car were forced to jump out to avoid injury.
Videos of the incident have surfaced, showing the chaotic scene as bystanders and other motorists watched in shock. The traffic inspector narrowly escaped serious harm and was able to avoid critical injuries.
The police have since seized the cab, and the driver was apprehended after a brief chase. Authorities confirmed that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are expected to be filed against the driver.
