Bus driver, conductor endanger passenger’s life by failing to open door in northern India

The incident took place at Hallomajra toward Tribune Chowk in Chandigarh on October 7.
Visuals showed the female conductor not only denied the passenger access but also filmed the situation instead of assisting him. As the bus passed through Hallomajra toward Tribune Chowk, the conductor repeatedly stated that the door would not open, dismissing the passenger’s requests to be let inside.
According to reports the incident occurred when the conductor did not open the door for the young man, who ended up clinging to the exterior as the bus sped along. Despite the passenger’s desperate pleas for the bus to halt, the driver continued driving, covering nearly two kilometers with the man in peril.
CTU staff, speaking anonymously, condemned the actions of the driver and conductor, emphasizing that had the passenger fallen, it could have resulted in a tragic accident. They noted that it is unacceptable for a bus to be driven with a passenger hanging off the side.
Moreover, concerns have been raised regarding the lack of refresher courses for CTU drivers and conductors, which are crucial for updating their skills and ensuring passenger safety. Without regular training, the quality of service and safety standards are compromised.
Transport Department Director Pradyuman Singh stated, “Compromising citizen safety is unacceptable. The video will be verified, and strict action will be taken against the involved staff according to regulations.”
