Retaining wall collapses triggering landslide blocking highway in northern India

In a concerning incident in northern India’s Himachal Pradesh, a landslide triggered by the collapse of a retaining wall blocked traffic on the Kalka-Shimla four-lane highway.
The incident took place near Kumarhatti area in Solan district on September 16.
Visuals showed the retaining wall crumbling like a pack of cards, with dust from the debris scattering into the air like smoke. A large volume of stones and rubble tumbled onto the road, but fortunately, no vehicles were caught in the collapse.
According to reports, fortunately, no vehicle was caught in the collapse, and traffic was diverted immediately to prevent further disruption. The landslide has blocked one lane of the Kalka-Shimla four-lane highway, prompting authorities to divert traffic to the remaining lane. Luckily, no vehicles were on the affected stretch when the retaining wall gave way, avoiding any injuries or damage. Beyond the traffic disruption, the landslide has also threatened a nearby house, raising safety concerns for residents. Police have been stationed at the site, and measures are being taken to ensure the safe passage of vehicles on the open lane.
Although no serious accidents have occurred, officials are closely monitoring the area for potential hazards. Traffic on the highway continues to be impacted, and the public has been urged to follow the safety guidelines and diversions in place.
