Bridge collapse in western India amidst heavy rains, locals stranded
In western India’s Gujarat, a bridge collapsed due to relentless heavy rains, leaving several locals stranded and causing significant disruptions.
The incident took place in Surendranagar district on August 27.
Visuals showed how within moments the bridge collapsed into sand and rubble.
According to reports, the incident took place near the city of Chotila, a region known for its religious significance. The bridge, crucial for connecting nearby villages, crumbled under the pressure of swollen rivers and continuous downpours.
Authorities have rushed to the scene, but the ongoing rains are hampering rescue operations. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, but the collapse has left many villagers cut off from essential services.
The area, which is already battling flooding and waterlogged roads, now faces even more severe challenges in terms of accessibility and relief efforts. Local vendors like Mahesh Bhai, who runs a small grocery store in the nearby village, expressed concern about the impact on daily life, fearing that supplies would run out soon if the situation did not improve.
