BJP worker breaks TV in office after election result in northern India
Tensions ran high in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh when a BJP worker, visibly distraught over the below-par results, smashed a television in the local party office.
The incident took place in a party office in Ayodhya on June 4.
Visuals showed a party leader intently watching the election results on TV in the BJP office. As soon as he learned that the BJP had lost in Ayodhya, he ripped the TV from its place and hurled it to the ground. In a fit of rage, he picked it up again and slammed it down once more. Two nearby individuals quickly intervened to stop him.
In a dramatic display of frustration, the worker shattered the TV set shortly after the election results were announced. The BJP candidate, who had been favored to win, lost to a rival party, leading to disappointment among the supporters.
The BJP suffered a shock defeat in the Faizabad constituency, which houses the temple town of Ayodhya, months after the ruling party delivered on its long-standing promise of building a Ram temple on the site believed to be the birthplace of the deity. The SP’s Awadhesh Prasad won the seat, defeating sitting BJP MP Lallu Singh by more than 54,500 votes.
