Bear captured after six-hour effort in eastern India, relocated safely by forest department
by Aditi VermaA rogue bear that wandered into a primary school in eastern India’s Odisha was safely tranquilized and relocated after a six-hour effort by the forest department.
The incident took place at Dahna Primary School in Nandahandi Block, Nabarangpur district on July 16.
Visuals showed a bear was seen climbing and jumping around a tree near a school. The rescue team arrived and managed to capture the bear in a cage. The cage, with the bear inside, was then placed in an animal transport vehicle. The team is now taking the bear to release it in a safe location.
After an intense six-hour operation, the forest department successfully subdued and relocated a rogue bear that had entered Dahna Primary School in Nandahandi Block. The bear was first spotted early morning by the headmistress and others near an under-construction building just as the school was about to open. Concerned for the safety of the students, school authorities promptly sent everyone home.
Upon hearing the news, the Nabarangpur MLA arrived at the scene and coordinated with the forest department to plan the bear’s capture. Forest department employees, along with the Rapid Response Team, set up a net to trap the bear. Startled by the presence of people, the bear climbed a tree, prompting further efforts.
After careful planning, the forest department tranquilized the bear. In its unconscious state, the bear was gently lowered into a net and safely relocated to a secure location by the forest department. The quick and efficient actions of the authorities ensured the safety of both the bear and the local community.
