Battle against drugs: chief minister leads campaign by crushing drug pouches for drug-free state northeastern India
On the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in northeastern India’s Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the state’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse.
The incident took place in Assam on July 18, 2021 but the video is getting viral recently as Assam’s Chief Minister shared it on social media on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Visuals showed Chief Minister Sarma driving a bulldozer and crushing thousands of drug bottles with the same.
It’s a powerful message shared on social media, Sarma highlighted Assam’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, showcasing an old video of himself driving a JCB over thousands of seized drug bottles.
The Chief Minister proudly reported, “Assam has been waging a war against drugs, striking at this menace at regular intervals and recovering drugs worth over ₹2,100 crore ($280 million). We remain committed to creating a Drug-Free Assam, where our children are safe from the threat of narcotics and can lead a healthy life.”
Under Sarma’s leadership, Assam has intensified its anti-drug operations, resulting in substantial drug seizures and numerous arrests. The state government has adopted a multi-faceted approach that includes awareness campaigns, rehabilitation programs, and strict law enforcement to curb the drug menace.
