Bank brawl erupts over TDS dispute: Customer attacks manager, staff
A heated altercation occurred between a customer and a bank manager over a dispute related to TDS (Tax Deducted at Source).
The incident happened at the Union Bank’s Premchandnagar Branch near Mansi Circle in the Vastrapur area of Ahmedabad district, Gujarat on December 3.
The visual shows the customer and a bank employee engaged in a physical scuffle, grabbing each other’s collars. Despite several people attempting to intervene, one of the individuals, visibly angry, refused to calm down. An elderly woman tried to pacify him, but the enraged customer attacked another man. Eventually, others managed to restrain him and prevent the situation from escalating further.
According to reports, the customer, identified as Jaiman Raval, allegedly assaulted the branch manager, Saurabh Singh, and a SUD Life Insurance employee, Shubham Jain. In his complaint, Singh stated that Raval, a resident of Bodakdev, had visited the bank to inquire about TDS deductions on the interest earned from his fixed deposit. Although Singh explained the refund process in detail, Raval reportedly became agitated, accusing the bank of misappropriating his money.
Raval allegedly grabbed Singh’s ID card, tore his shirt, and became physically aggressive. When Jain attempted to intervene, Raval slapped him and also tore his shirt. Other bank staff and customers stepped in to control the situation before it escalated further. Singh contacted the police, who arrived promptly to restore order.
The Vastrapur police have filed an FIR against Raval, charging him with obstructing lawful duties, verbal abuse, and physical assault. Vastrapur Police Inspector L.L. Chavda stated, “We have arrested the accused, and further investigation is underway.”
This incident highlights the growing stress and tension surrounding financial disputes.
