Balcony collapse during Muharram Procession in northern India: over 50 injured

In northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a tragic accident occurred during the Muharram procession when a house balcony collapsed, killing a child and injuring over 50 people.
The incident took place in the Sakrava police station area, Kannauj district on July 17.
Visuals showed the procession, marking the tenth day of Muharram, had just started from Mohalla Syedabada. Around 50 women and children were on a balcony to watch the Tazia, with over 100 people standing below. As the Tazia approached, the balcony suddenly gave way, causing chaos and panic among the crowd.

According to reports, emergency services and local residents rushed to rescue those trapped under the rubble. The injured were taken to CHC Saurikh, a 100-bed hospital in Chhibramau, and other private hospitals. Rusan, a 12-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at CHC Saurikh.
District Magistrate Shubhrant Shukla, ASP Sansar Singh, SDM Umakant Tiwari, Tehsildar Abhinav Verma, and CO Omkar Nath Sharma visited the hospitals to check on the injured. After the debris was cleared, the Tazias continued to Karbala, where they were buried.
