Amid heavy rains, pet dog seen searching for owner buried alive under landslide in southern India

Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in southern India’s Karnataka causing landslides and severe disruptions. In a heart-wrenching incident, a pet dog was captured on video searching for its owner, who is feared to have been buried alive in the debris.

The incident took place at Ankola-Shirali Road in Uttara Kannada district on July 16.

Visuals showed a pet dog desperately searching for its owner on the Ankola-Shirali Road. The owner, along with others, is believed to have been buried alive and washed away by a landslide.

Since Monday night, Uttara Kannada district has been experiencing torrential rainfall, leading to the submersion of several roads, including National Highway 776-E and National Highway 66. The relentless downpour has triggered multiple landslides, causing extensive damage and disrupting traffic on major routes.

The heavy rains have continued to cause chaos in the district, with significant disruptions and danger. A portion of a hill collapsed on National Highway 66 near Shirur village in Ankola taluk, resulting in extensive damage. Five individuals, who were standing near a tea stall on the banks of the Gangavali River, are suspected to have been washed away due to the landslide. However, the district administration has yet to confirm the incident officially.

Search operations for the missing individuals are ongoing, but efforts are being hampered by the overflowing river. The heavy rainfall has led to multiple landslides and landslips along the four-lane highway, resulting in severe traffic jams. Traffic on National Highway 69, connecting Honnavar and Bengaluru, was also disrupted for hours due to debris from a landslide. Fortunately, the road has since been cleared and is now operational.

As the district grapples with the impact of the heavy rains, the video of the loyal dog searching for its owner has become a poignant symbol of the devastation caused by the natural disaster.
