Alert cop saves man who fell while getting down moving train in eastern India

An alert cop was up to the task as he saved a man from a serious accident after he fell down while de-boarding a moving train, in eastern India’s Odisha.

The incident reportedly happened in Brahmapur railway station in Ganjam district on February 19.

CCTV footage from the incident showed the chilling moment when the man slipped and fell while getting down the train (12840) at platform number one. The passenger, later identified as Jayasankar Munda, lost his balance and was being dragged by the moving train as he had held on to the vehicle’s handle.

The cop, Suryakanta Sahoo, who was standing nearby, instantly rushed to Munda’s aid and pulled him out of harm’s way, preventing him from going into the gap between the train and the platform.

It was learnt later that Munda, a resident of Jalakhabanda, a place in northeastern India’s Assam, was travelling with his wife to Chennai when this incident happened. He had planned to get down at the Brahmapur station and take another train but had boarded the train from which he fell, by mistake.
