An Air India flight (AI 119) traveling from Mumbai to New York was diverted to northern India’s Delhi early morning following a bomb threat received via social media. Passengers are safe after a thorough inspection of the aircraft revealed no suspicious items.

 

The incident took place at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on October 14.

Visuals showed amidst the urgency of an emergency landing, passengers quickly exited the aircraft, faces marked by anxiety. A police officer stood by the window, carefully checking the surroundings. Security personnel were present, ensuring order. The atmosphere buzzed with tension, as everyone awaited reassurance in the chaotic moment.

 

According to reports, Air India flight AI 119 was en route from Mumbai to New York when it received a specific security alert regarding a potential bomb threat. The aircraft, a Boeing 777 with registration VT-AER, departed Mumbai at 2:27 am, approximately 50 minutes late, and landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi around 4:00 am.

 

Upon receiving the threat, the flight was diverted to Delhi as a precautionary measure, following protocols established by the government’s security regulatory committee.

 

All passengers disembarked safely, and Air India officials ensured minimal inconvenience was caused by this unexpected disruption. Passengers were temporarily relocated to a holding area while ground staff assisted them. Importantly, no suspicious items were found after a thorough inspection of the aircraft, allowing it to be cleared for future operations.

 

In light of this incident, Air India reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards and protocols for all flights. The airline thanked passengers for their understanding and cooperation during this security precaution.
