An AI-powered camera recently averted a potentially fatal train crash in the forest division, saving three elephants from serious harm.
The incident took place in Rourkela forest division of Sundargarh district in Odisha, eastern India, and the video went viral on December 8.
Visuals show the AI camera detecting a calf and two adult elephants approaching the railway tracks.
According to reports, the AI camera promptly alerted the Forest Department’s control room upon spotting the elephants. As it tracked their movements, the camera sent real-time location data and images to both the railway and forest control rooms. The railway responded swiftly, delaying a cargo train’s departure by 30 minutes to allow the elephants to safely cross the tracks.
