Severe flooding struck a revered temple as Cyclone Dana’s aftermath brought torrential rains and flash floods, leaving the area of eastern India’s Odisha submerged and causing disruptions for devotees and locals alike.

The incident took place at Panchalingeswar Temple located in the Balasore district on October 25.

Visuals showed during the cyclone, a temple became engulfed in floodwaters, with torrents rushing through and around it. The scene was strikingly intense, as water cascaded relentlessly across the temple grounds, creating a dramatic and dangerous sight.

According to reports two people died in West Bengal as authorities in Kolkata remained on alert followed the landfall of ‘severe’ Cyclone Dana on the Odisha coast. Streets were inundated and water entered the government run SSKM Hospital and Kolkata Municipal Corporation headquarters in Esplanade.

While Odisha reported no casualties, flooding was witnessed in the coastal districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Balasore.

IMD DG Mrutunjay Mohapatra said the system will continue to remain as the severe cyclonic storm will gradually weaken on Friday and move deeper in the state, triggering heavy rains in most places.
