Acid tanker overturns in northern India, causes extensive environmental damage

An accident involving a capsule tanker carrying a significant amount of acid occurred on an expressway northern India’s Uttar.
The incident took place on the Eastern Peripheral expressway in Ghaziabad on May 28.
Visuals showed how the authorities were removing the damaged tanker from the road to prevent further mishaps.
The tanker, en route from Punjab to Etah in Uttar Pradesh, overturned, leading to a hazardous chemical spill. The spill resulted in acid spreading over several hundred meters, burning grass and straw in the surrounding area and raising immediate environmental and safety concerns. Environmental experts are assessing the extent of the damage, and cleanup operations are underway.
Traffic on the expressway was temporarily halted to ensure public safety, and diversions were set up to manage the flow of vehicles. No injuries have been reported so far, but the incident has highlighted the risks associated with transporting hazardous materials on busy highways.
