A major accident took place when a private bus ploughed into a crowd leaving 10 people injured in southern India’s Tamil Nadu.

The incident took place at the Gandhipuram town bus stand in Coimbatore on May 6.

Visuals showed the uncontrolled bus running over the people waiting at the bus stop.

As per police statements, it has been reported that ten individuals, including Karthi, Perarasu, Abi, Chinnavan, Marimuthu, Vasantha, Sangeetha, Archana, and Murugesan, sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred at 5:07 a.m.

According to the police, S. Sanjiv from Perundurai in Erode was driving the private bus named ‘Sapthagiri’ operating on route number S11. Surveillance footage of the accident depicted the driver entering the bus stand at 5:07 a.m.

As Sanjiv approached a TNSTC bus parked in the bus bay to overtake on the left side, a passenger disembarked from the rear door of the TNSTC bus. In response, Sanjiv abruptly veered left, purportedly to avoid colliding with the passenger. Consequently, he lost control of the bus, which then collided with people waiting for buses behind barricades.

The injured individuals were subsequently transported to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for medical attention.

The traffic investigation wing in Coimbatore east initiated a case against Sanjiv following a complaint filed by one of the injured persons, Karthi (39) from Thiruvarur.
