Massive fire breaks out in factory in northern India, 700 workers feared trapped
A catastrophic fire engulfed a factory in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh causing relentless explosions heard throughout the vicinity.
The incident took place in the industrial area of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad on May 5.
Visuals showed in a factory, a fierce fire blazed, its flames raging intensely.
As per initial reports, the factory, which employs approximately 700 workers, stored thousands of chemical-filled drums that continued to rupture throughout the night. Authorities are yet to confirm any casualties or individuals trapped within the inferno.
The factory, known for producing various parts for cooling towers, houses four separate plants, of which three were closed on Sunday, leaving fewer employees on-site. Sources reveal that initial attempts to extinguish the flames were made by security personnel, but the intensity of the blaze overwhelmed their efforts. Moreover, inadequate fire fighting arrangements within the facility exacerbated the situation.
Efforts to contain the fire remain ongoing, with the fire department facing substantial challenges due to the chemical containers fueling the flames. Despite the arrival of additional laborers offering assistance, the fire’s ferocity persists, hindering containment efforts.
