Several houses damaged as landslide strikes northern India

Several houses were left damaged after a landslide struck northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir.

This incident happened in Bedar village in Mandi area of Poonch district on April 29.

Dramatic visuals showed the landslide taking place in the area. A massive chunk of the earth crumbled down from a hilly area and landed straight into a house that was at the edge of it. The rubble smashed against the house and destroyed a part of it as people who were present there shrieked in panic.

The incessant rainfall over the last 48 hours has caused widespread destruction in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K), particularly in Poonch. In Bedar village, Mandi area of Poonch, numerous homes suffered damage from a landslide triggered by the heavy rains. This intense rainfall also resulted in flash floods in parts of Poonch and northern Kashmir, leading to the destruction of 8 to 10 buildings and roads.

SDM Ashfaq Hussain detailed the situation, mentioning that 8 to 10 houses bore the brunt of the heavy rainfall, with some completely destroyed and others partially damaged. Roads were also impacted. An official spokesperson stated that in response to the continuous heavy rains over the past four days, the administration has elevated its disaster response mechanism.
