Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. He described Bose as a symbol of fearless leadership and unwavering patriotism. The prime minister said Netaji’s ideals continue to inspire generations and remain central to the vision of a strong and self reliant India.
In a series of posts on X Prime Minister Modi recalled the courage resolve and immense contribution of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He said the birth anniversary of Bose is observed as Parakram Diwas to honour his bravery and lifelong commitment to the nation. The prime minister added that Netaji’s leadership and patriotism continue to guide India’s national spirit.
The prime minister also spoke about steps taken by his government to preserve and promote the legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He criticised earlier governments for neglecting Bose’s contribution. He said recalling Bose’s achievements did not suit the agenda of those who ruled the country for decades. As a result efforts were made to erase his role from public memory. He added that his government holds different beliefs and has worked consistently to highlight Bose’s life and ideals at every opportunity.
Prime Minister Modi said Netaji has always been a source of inspiration for him. He recalled that while serving as chief minister of Gujarat he launched the e Gram Vishwagram Yojana on January twenty three two thousand nine. The scheme was introduced to honour Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and aimed to transform Gujarat’s information technology infrastructure. The programme was launched from Haripura which held special significance in Bose’s life. The prime minister said he still remembers the warm welcome he received from the people of Haripura and the procession organised on the same road once travelled by Netaji.
He also recalled that a major programme was organised in Ahmedabad in two thousand twelve to mark Azad Hind Fauj Day. The event was attended by many people inspired by Bose including former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma. Prime Minister Modi said such programmes were part of efforts to revive public awareness of Bose’s contributions.
The prime minister highlighted the declassification of files and documents related to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as a landmark step. He said transparency regarding historical records was essential to ensure that future generations understand the true role played by Bose in India’s freedom struggle.
Prime Minister Modi said two thousand eighteen was especially significant for two major reasons. He recalled the celebration of the seventy fifth anniversary of the formation of the Azad Hind government at the Red Fort. During that event he interacted with INA veteran Lalti Ram. He also referred to the seventy fifth anniversary of Netaji unfurling the national flag in Srivijayapuram then known as Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
He said three prominent islands were renamed to honour Bose including Ross Island which is now known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep. These steps were taken to ensure lasting recognition of his legacy.
Prime Minister Modi also spoke about the Kranti Mandir museum at the Red Fort. He said the museum houses valuable historical material related to Netaji and the Indian National Army. This includes the cap worn by Bose. He said preserving such artifacts is important to deepen public understanding of India’s freedom movement.
The prime minister said Bose’s birth anniversary was officially declared as Parakram Diwas to honour his courage. He recalled his visit to Netaji Bhawan in Kolkata in two thousand twenty one. He said this was the place from where Netaji made his historic escape.
Prime Minister Modi said one of the most visible examples of his government’s respect for Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the installation of his grand statue near India Gate. He said placing the statue at the heart of the national capital reflects a commitment to shed colonial thinking and honour national heroes. He added that the statue will continue to inspire generations.
