Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting in Malda, West Bengal, highlighting strong support for the BJP among India’s Gen Z. He pointed to the party’s historic victory in the recent Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in Mumbai as evidence of public faith in the BJP’s development agenda. Modi expressed confidence that voters in Bengal would follow a similar path in the upcoming state elections, scheduled in the coming months.
During his speech, Modi criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool government in the state, declaring in Bengali, “Ei sarkar palano dorkaar,” meaning the current administration needs to be replaced. He accused the Trinamool government of corruption and mismanagement, claiming that it has diverted public funds and blocked central assistance from reaching the people of Bengal. Modi asserted that only with a BJP government would development and welfare programs effectively reach the citizens.
He also raised concerns over border security, alleging that the Trinamool government has been shielding infiltrators. Modi stated that strong action would be taken against illegal infiltration once the BJP assumes power in the state.
Addressing the Matua community and other persecuted refugees from neighboring countries, he assured them that they had nothing to fear. Modi emphasized that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) provides protection for these communities, reinforcing the party’s commitment to safeguarding their rights.
Through his rally in Malda, Modi sought to consolidate support ahead of the Bengal assembly elections, emphasizing development, law and order, and protection of vulnerable communities. He reinforced the message that the BJP’s governance model focuses on growth, security, and welfare, contrasting it with what he described as the Trinamool government’s failures. The Prime Minister called on voters to ensure a change in leadership, promising that the BJP would bring progress and stability to West Bengal.
