Telangana plans new law to cut 15 percent salary for those ignoring parent care

The Telangana government is preparing to introduce a new law aimed at addressing cases where government employees neglect their elderly parents. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced the proposal on Monday and said it would be presented during the upcoming budget session of the state legislature.

According to the chief minister, the government has observed that many senior citizens are being left without proper care by their children. To address this, the proposed law would allow the government to deduct between 10 and 15 percent of the salary of government employees who fail to support their parents. The deducted amount would be transferred directly into the bank accounts of the affected parents.

Reddy said that caring for parents is not just a personal duty but also a social responsibility. He stated that people who do not look after their parents are failing in their obligation to society. He added that complaints made by elderly parents would be taken seriously and would lead to strict action.

The chief minister also announced the establishment of day care centres for senior citizens under the name Pranaam. These centres are intended to provide care and support for elderly people who may not have adequate assistance at home. He described the initiative as a humanitarian effort designed to ensure that older citizens can live with dignity and security.

In addition to the senior citizen welfare measures, Reddy said his government would provide greater representation to the transgender community. He announced that one co opted member post in every municipal corporation would be reserved for transgender persons in the upcoming local body elections.

He further stated that the state government is committed to building a more inclusive and caring society. He said no one should be left behind in the development process. Reddy also revealed that a comprehensive health policy would be announced during the budget session. The policy aims to ensure medical treatment for all residents of Telangana.
