Bison rescued after it fell into drain in southern India

A wild bison was rescued after it had fallen into a drain in southern India’s Karnataka.

This incident happened near the Uchila Sri Mahalakshmi temple in Kapu taluk of Udupi district on November 7.

 

Visuals showed the forest department officials using an excavator to conduct the rescue operation. The excavator dug up the drain and prepared a ramp for the bovine to come out. The darkness of the night did seem to be an impediment in the rescue operation but the efficient officials ensured that the bison was safe and taken out of the drain. The bovine was seen getting out of the drain through the ramp which was created by the excavator and running away from the area after being rescued.

According to a report, the temple staff noticed the bison inside the drain and informed the forest department officials about the same at 8 am.

The officials then arrived in the area and carried out the rescue operation which began at 7 pm and lasted till 9:30 pm. Assistant Conservator of Forest Clifford Lobho, Range Forest Officer Varijakshi, Deputy Range Forest Officer Jeevan Das Shetty and staff members of the Udupi range.
