Elephant falls into open well in eastern India, rescued
by Surya PrakashA sub-adult elephant was rescued after it fell into an abandoned well which was 15-feet deep, in eastern India’s Odisha.
This happened in Champua Range of Keonjhar district of the state on July 15.
Visuals showed the rescue operation underway. An excavator was used to dig up the well in which the elephant fell and the pachyderm was seen climbing up the dug-up ground and making its way up and away from the spot. Forest department officials of the Champua range were reportedly engaged in rescuing this elephant from the open well. The elephant was found trapped at 11:00 am and rescued by 3:30 pm. The elephant did suffer a minor injury on its right hind leg but as per the veterinarian, it would get healed.
Despite there being heavy rainfall, the rescue team ensured that the elephant was saved. Also, it was united with its herd within 30 minutes of the rescue.
