Leopard strays into field, causing panic among locals; rescued by forest officials

A leopard was captured by forest officials after being found roaming dangerously near a village, causing panic among locals. The animal had been spotted near a mustard field, and after a tense eight-hour rescue operation, the leopard was safely trapped and relocated by the forest department.

The incident took place at Mishroli Tola, Pagar Village, Ramkola, in Kushinagar District, Uttar Pradesh, northern India, on January 22.

Visuals show a leopard in a field as villagers gather around, while several forest officials attempt to use a long net to capture the leopard and place it in a cage. The leopard roars as the officials capture the moment on camera.

According to reports, the leopard was trapped in a net intended to catch wild pigs near the bushes at Pagar Tandi Tola. Villagers, upon discovering the leopard, gathered at the site and informed the forest officials. The forest department team rescued the leopard using a Dan Inject tranquilizer gun. The rescue operation, which lasted about eight hours, required restricting movement in the area for safety reasons.

At around 10 a.m., near the banks of the Narayani River adjacent to the village, laborers cutting the mustard in the field were terrified to see the leopard and ran away, shouting to alert others. The news spread quickly, and villagers informed the police, who then alerted the forest department.

Speaking to Newslions, Kushinagar Divisional Forest Officer stated that the team immediately arrived at the scene under his supervision. Using drones, they located the leopard, which was found with its leg caught in a strong net. Villagers explained that the net was set up to protect mustard crops from stray animals.

Despite several attempts to rescue the leopard, it remained trapped and roared continuously, frightening the villagers. To manage the situation, movement in the affected area was restricted for safety. Late in the evening, a doctor from the Gorakhpur Zoo tranquilized the leopard using a Dan Inject Gun, allowing officials to safely secure it in a cage.

Leopards have been causing panic in several districts, including Kushinagar and Maharajganj. The forest department is patrolling the area to determine how the leopard entered the village.
