Wedding turns tragic as 6-year-old is fatally kicked by horse during procession

A 6-year-old boy was fatally kicked by a horse during a wedding celebration.

The incident took place near Thakur Chowk, in the Hanumant Vihar police station area of Kanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, on January 26.

Visuals show a horse dancing to the music played by a band when a small, innocent boy walks behind it. The horse kicks fiercely, causing the boy to collide with a nearby stairway and fall.

According to reports, the child, identified as Krishna, was walking behind the horse as it was being made to dance to loud music played by a band. The horse kicked Krishna, causing him to hit his head on a nearby stairway, resulting in severe injuries.

The joyful wedding atmosphere quickly turned into mourning. Krishna’s family rushed him to several hospitals, but despite efforts, he was declared dead during treatment on the afternoon of January 29.

The groom, riding a horse, had entered the wedding hall and was performing tricks with the horse when the incident occurred. Krishna, the son of an e-rickshaw driver, was passing through a narrow lane behind the horse when it kicked him. Neighbours reported that the horse was being forced to dance to the loud band music, which likely caused it to become agitated.

The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, and the footage later went viral on social media. Police, led by Hanumant Vihar Police Station Head Uday Singh, reviewed the footage and stated that they would take action once the family filed a formal complaint. However, Krishna’s father, Suresh, declined to file a complaint.

Krishna’s mother, Swati, expressed deep sorrow, asking why her child was taken from her after years of prayers for a second child. Krishna was born 12 years after the couple’s first son, Shiva, and they had even built a Hanuman temple in the neighbourhood to celebrate his birth. Despite the family’s pain, they have refused any legal action against the horse owner.

Residents mentioned that the horse’s owner was forcing the animal to dance to the music in the narrow lane. The loud noise and tight space may have contributed to the horse’s reaction, leading it to lash out and kick Krishna.
