Officials recover 257 grams of gold hidden inside screwdriver at airport

A significant operation by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the airport led to the seizure of 257 grams of gold cleverly concealed inside a screwdriver.

The incident occurred at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi during the night shift on January 15.

The visual shows officials cutting the iron with a cutter. After that, a man balances and displays the gold inside the screwdriver on the Knipex.

According to reports, based on meticulous passenger profiling, a 20-year-old male traveler from Uttar Pradesh, who was flying from Jeddah to Delhi on flight XY-329, came under surveillance. The individual was seen assisting a female passenger in a wheelchair, who was on the same flight but originating from Riyadh. The pair were intercepted at the Green Channel exit for further scrutiny. During an x-ray screening of the female passenger’s baggage, the AIU team observed suspicious images, prompting a detailed physical inspection.

Upon thorough examination, authorities uncovered a cylindrical-shaped yellow metal piece hidden inside a screwdriver. The object was confirmed to be gold, weighing approximately 257 grams. The seized gold has been taken into custody, and an investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full extent of the smuggling attempt and identify any potential accomplices. This operation underscores the vigilance of the AIU at IGI Airport in thwarting innovative methods employed by smugglers to transport contraband goods.
