Indore traffic police smashes 1,000 loud silencers in noise pollution crackdown
In a decisive step to curb noise pollution and enhance public safety, the traffic police demolished over 1,000 modified bike silencers using a bulldozer.
The incident took place in Indore City, Madhya Pradesh on December 11.
The visual shows silencers laid out along the road over a long distance. Bulldozers, under police supervision, are destroying them.
According to reports, Traffic Inspector Rekha Singh personally operated the bulldozer during the operation, which drew public attention for its strong stance against violators. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Arvind Tiwari emphasized the dangers posed by modified silencers, stating, “The issue of modified bike silencers is directly related to the safety of women, children, and senior citizens. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding public safety.”
Highlighting the impact of these modifications, Tiwari added, “Many individuals alter bike silencers, causing them to emit loud, cracker-like noises. This not only disturbs the public but also increases the risk of accidents.”
The campaign has seen significant results, with over 2,000 bikes fined and numerous silencers confiscated to date. During Wednesday’s operation alone, more than 1,000 silencers were destroyed, sending a strong message to violators.
When asked about addressing the root cause of the problem, DCP Tiwari revealed that efforts are underway to target manufacturers and sellers of these modified silencers. “We are compiling a list of individuals involved in the manufacturing and sale of such silencers and will take appropriate legal action against them,” he said.
This operation follows a similar drive last month, during which approximately 350 silencers were destroyed. Authorities reiterated their commitment to the campaign, underscoring the importance of eliminating noise pollution and ensuring public safety.
