Scrap yard fire sends flames along with smoke billowing into the sky, sparking fear
A fire at a scrap yard erupted, sending thick smoke and towering flames into the sky, creating widespread panic among locals.
The incident took place in the Chikhali-Kudalwadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad in the Pune district of Maharashtra, western India on December 9.
Visuals show massive black smoke billowing into the sky, highlighting the intensity of the fire, as onlookers around the area were left terrified.
According to initial reports, no injuries have been reported. “The blaze erupted at a scrap yard in the Kudalwadi area around 10 am. Upon receiving the call, approximately 20 fire engines were mobilized to tackle the fire,” said a Fire Brigade official from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, he added. The fire was eventually brought under control, with a cooling operation soon launched.
The city has recently experienced a spate of fires, including forest blazes in the surrounding hills.
On Sunday at 5:52 pm, the fire brigade was alerted to a fire at a shop in Bavdhan, Shindenagar. Fire engines were sent from Kothrud, Warje, Pashan, Aundh, and Erandwane fire stations.
Reports from the scene indicate that a five-story building, which housed a photo studio with flex, photo frames, and other materials, caught fire, generating thick smoke. Meanwhile, three apartments in the building were also damaged. Seven people, trapped by the smoke, were rescued by fire personnel and given first aid. The fire was brought under control by 6:45 pm, and a cooling operation was swiftly initiated.
