Jewelry shop hoarding collapses in southern India injures one
A jewelry shop advertisement hoarding fell on a busy street in southern India’s Tamil Nadu, injuring one person.
The incident took place near Manjakuppam in Cuddalore district on November 19.
Visuals showed two people riding a bike on a busy road when a large advertisement banner suddenly broke and fell. The person sitting at the back of the bike lost balance and fell to the ground, while the heavy banner collapsed directly onto the rider. The sudden incident created chaos on the road, with passersby rushing to help and vehicles coming to a standstill, adding to the commotion. The scene was filled with panic and confusion as people tried to assess the situation.
According to reports, Eyewitnesses claim the incident occurred due to poor maintenance of the structure, which had been swaying for days. Authorities acted swiftly, removing the collapsed board and clearing the debris to restore traffic flow.
In the aftermath of the accident, three police officers were transferred, sparking speculation over their potential involvement in granting approvals for the hoarding despite safety concerns. The incident has raised questions about the enforcement of municipal regulations on public safety and the monitoring of commercial advertisements.
