Car collides with bus in southern India: major damage, probe ordered
A speeding car collided with a KSRTC bus in southern India’s Kerala causing significant damage but no major injuries.
The incident took place at Pulamon, Kottarakkara in Kollam district on November 18.
Visuals showed a speeding car struck the rear of a bus near its diesel tank. The car, traveling from Punalur lost control and collided with the bus despite the KSRTC driver’s efforts to avoid the crash.
According to reports, the impact was severe, causing the rear axle of the bus, along with its four tyres, to detach from the chassis and land a distance away. Fortunately, no passengers on the bus were injured. The SUV, reportedly carrying medical students, sustained extensive damage, and its occupants suffered minor injuries.
Traffic was briefly disrupted but resumed after the vehicles were cleared. Allegations surfaced that poor maintenance of the KSRTC bus might have contributed to the detachment of its tyres. Kerala’s Transport Minister, KB Ganesh Kumar, has ordered a probe into the incident. CCTV footage of the crash has gone viral on social media, while the Kottarakkara Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident and the extent of the damage.
