Petrol bombs target theater in southern India amid protests against film
A theater in southern India’s Tamil Nadu was targeted with a petrol bomb, sparking tensions amid protests against the film Amaran. Authorities are investigating possible motives, including opposition to the film’s portrayal of Muslims and a local dispute.
The incident took place at Alangar Cinemas in Melapalayam, Tirunelveli district on November 16.
Visuals showed two assailants throwing the bombs at the theater before fleeing. Fortunately, no damage or injuries were reported.
According to reports, Senior police officials have stated that while the protests against the film are one potential motive, the incident may also be connected to a dispute among locals on Friday. “The exact motive will be confirmed after a thorough investigation,” authorities told India Today.
The attack has heightened tensions in the area, with local police working to apprehend the suspects. Meanwhile, screenings of *Amaran* continue at Alangar Cinemas and other venues, though under heightened security measures.
The incident underscores the challenges faced by filmmakers in addressing sensitive topics, as well as the potential for local disputes to escalate into larger confrontations.
