Tragedy strikes in southern India as student fatally injured by speeding bus in broad daylight

In a heartbreaking incident in southern India’s Tamil Nadu, a college student lost her life when a speeding bus collided with her two-wheeler as she attempted to cross a busy road.
The incident took place near Ramayanpatti village, close to Tirunelveli district on November 14.
Visuals showed a bustling road just moments before the tragic accident, showing the young woman on her scooter as she tried to cross. Within seconds, the oncoming bus struck her vehicle, throwing her off the scooter. Witnesses could be seen visibly shaken by the shocking turn of events.
According to reports, the victim was identified by police as 19-year-old P Selvam from Veppankulam village. Selvam, the third daughter of daily wage laborers Paldurai and Esther Mary, was a second-year student at a college in Perumalpuram, while her younger sister, Sudharsana, studies at a municipal girls’ school in Tirunelveli Town.
On Thursday morning, Selvam had taken her younger sister to a bus stop before attempting to cross the road to return home. It was at this moment that the speeding bus, heading toward Tirunelveli, hit Selvam’s two-wheeler with force, throwing her from the vehicle and resulting in her death at the scene. Distressed bystanders immediately informed Manur police of the accident.
Police arrived promptly, retrieving Selvam’s body for postmortem at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. A case has been registered, and authorities have begun questioning the bus driver.
