Secunderabad-Shalimar Express derails in eastern India, no injuries reported

In an early morning incident, three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed in eastern India’s West Bengal. Authorities have confirmed there were no injuries or fatalities, and relief operations are underway.
The incident took place near Nalpur Station, which is located in the Howrah district on November 9.
Visuals showed the scene around the derailed train was chaotic, with passengers gathered outside, visibly distressed. People crowded along the tracks and beside the train, some carrying bags, while others spoke anxiously, looking for information. The train’s wheels were off the track, lodged onto the gravel and stones lining the railway. Coaches tilted slightly, showing the impact, while railway officials and emergency personnel assessed the scene. An air of tension and urgency filled the area as people awaited further instructions or assistance.
According to reports the derailment occurred at approximately 5:31 am while the train was switching from the middle line to the down line, according to the South Eastern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Omprakash Charan. Among the affected coaches was the B1 passenger coach, along with another passenger coach and a parcel van.
Fortunately, no major injuries or casualties have been reported. To assist in relief efforts, an accident relief train and medical teams from Santragachi and Kharagpur were quickly dispatched to the site. Additionally, around 10 buses have been arranged to transport the passengers to Kolkata.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and the South Eastern Railway has assured passengers that they are prioritizing safety and minimizing disruption. The cause of the derailment is under investigation, and officials are working to restore normal operations as soon as possible.
