BSF apprehends smuggler with gold hidden in slippers at Indo-Bangladesh Border in eastern India
The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a gold smuggler attempting to transport Rs 37.5 lakh worth of gold across the Indo-Bangladesh border in eastern India’s West Bengal, concealing the contraband in his slippers.
The incident took place at Farjipara Border Outpost (BOP) in Murshidabad on November 4.
Visuals showed at the Indo-Bangladesh border, BSF jawans conducted a thorough check on a suspected smuggler. Using a detection device, they identified something unusual within his slippers. Upon instructing him to remove the footwear, the jawans tore open the soles, uncovering hidden gold biscuits carefully concealed inside.
According to reports, acting on this intelligence, the Company Commander at the outpost instructed jawans to monitor the area closely. Around 11 am, the suspect from Muslimpara village arrived at the BSF search point on a motorcycle. During the search, the gold biscuits were found concealed in the soles of his slippers.
Upon questioning, the suspect revealed that he had received the gold from two unknown Bangladeshi smugglers and was promised Rs 500 per biscuit as a reward for delivering the consignment to an unidentified individual in Uday Nagar Colony, Muslimpara.
Following the operation, both the suspect and the seized gold were handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Kolkata for further investigation. In a statement, a BSF spokesperson emphasized the heightened vigilance at the border, adding, “We are urging local residents to report any gold smuggling activities to BSF’s Seema Sathi Helpline at 14419 or via WhatsApp at 9903472227. Informants will be rewarded, and their identities will remain confidential.”
