Female police officer suspended after kissing woman in eastern India
In a shocking turn of events, a female police officer in eastern India’s West Bengal, has been suspended after a video showing her kissing a woman while allegedly inebriated went viral. The officer, identified as ASI Tanya Roy, faces further accusations of assaulting two minors, igniting public outrage and calls for accountability.
The incident took place at Siliguri and the video went viral on October 24.
Visuals showed the officer pulling a woman toward her and kissing her on the lips. Eyewitness reports indicate that Roy was intoxicated at the time, prompting widespread condemnation from the community.
According to reports, the situation escalated when local residents reported that the same officer had also harassed two minors—a girl and a boy—who were merely conversing in a school vicinity at night. According to their parents, the minors were subjected to verbal abuse without any provocation, raising alarms about the officer’s conduct while on duty.
Following the backlash, senior police officials confirmed that ASI Tanya Roy has been suspended and a departmental inquiry is underway. Community members are demanding stricter punishments to ensure the safety and well-being of women and children in the area, questioning the appropriateness of having such individuals in positions of authority.
The incident has not only tarnished the reputation of the Siliguri Police but also highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive training and accountability within law enforcement to foster trust and safety in the community.
