Man arrested for spitting on bread before baking in northern India
In northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a man spits on bread before baking it in a tandoor and a video has gone viral, sparking outrage. Authorities have shut down the local eatery and arrested the accused, while locals demand stricter actions to prevent such incidents.
The incident took place at Hafiz Ji Hotel in the Sudhiyamau under the jurisdiction of the Ramnagar area of Barabanki and the video went viral on October 23.
Visuals showed Irshad, a resident of Nabinagar, was seen preparing bread by spreading it with his hands, discreetly spitting on it, and then placing it in the tandoor.
The video, recorded secretly by a bystander, quickly spread across social media, leading to significant anger among the local community. Following the video’s circulation, the police arrested Irshad and sealed the hotel.
Barabanki’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Chiranjeevi Nath Sinha, confirmed the arrest and stated that strict action would follow as the investigation unfolds. The local Food Safety and Drug Administration also took immediate steps, conducting a thorough inspection of the premises and seizing the food items.
Shailendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety, highlighted that the eatery lacked proper registration and issued a notice to shut down the establishment. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under food safety regulations.
This is not the first incident of such nature, as similar cases have recently emerged from other cities, including Ghaziabad. The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh is reportedly planning new ordinances to curb such practices in food preparation, but public anger remains high as incidents continue to surface.
