In a significant interception, Customs officials in northern India’s Delhi seized 538 grams of gold jewelry and four iPhone 16 Pro devices from two female passengers arriving from Turkmenistan.

The incident took place at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on October 23.

Visuals showed customs officials were conducting a thorough inspection during the baggage check when they discovered gold items concealed in two sealed tissue paper pouches and four iPhone 16 Pro mobiles. They carefully weighed the gold, ensuring all items were accounted for, highlighting their commitment to enforcing customs regulations and preventing smuggling.

During an x-ray examination of their baggage, officials detected suspicious images that prompted further investigation. A thorough screening using a Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) resulted in strong alerts, leading to a detailed examination of the passengers. This scrutiny revealed an assortment of yellow metal jewelry, believed to be gold, weighing a total of 538 grams concealed within two sealed tissue paper pouches.

In addition to the gold, customs officials also uncovered four iPhone 16 Pro devices hidden within the same pouches. The incident underscores the vigilance of Delhi Customs in combating smuggling and ensuring compliance with customs regulations. Further investigation into the case is currently underway to ascertain the origins and intended destination of the seized items.
