Terror attack claims lives of civilians during festive period in northern India

The incident took place at Gund, Ganderbal district on October 20.
Visuals showed in a tense scene, police officers gathered around a lifeless body, their expressions somber as they examined the area. Broken debris littered the ground, evidence of the chaos that had unfolded. Multiple police teams were present, their presence highlighting the urgency of the investigation amidst the remnants of the violence.
In a heartfelt statement, Mohsin Shahnawaz Dar recounted the deep bond he shared with his father, who was a respected figure in their community. “My father wanted me to become a doctor, but I have always aspired to become an IAS officer,” he said. He noted that his grandfather, a former police inspector, had high hopes for him, believing he could achieve his dreams of civil service.
However, following the attack that claimed his father’s life, Mohsin’s dreams feel irrevocably shattered. Dr. Shahnawaz Dar was one of seven individuals killed during a terrorist assault on a tunnel construction site along the Srinagar-Leh national highway on Sunday evening. The victims included a designer named Sushant Abrol and six laborers, while five others were injured and are currently receiving treatment at SKIMS hospital in Srinagar. The Resistance Front (TRF) has claimed responsibility for this brutal attack, with search operations ongoing for those responsible.
In response to the violence, National Conference party president Farooq Abdullah condemned the attack, attributing it to Pakistan and lamenting the loss of innocent lives. “What do the terrorists hope to gain from this? They cannot create Pakistan here,” Abdullah stated. He emphasized the need for an end to terrorism to foster peaceful relations between India and Pakistan, asserting, “‘Kashmir Pakistan nahi Banega.’ It is time to end terrorism, or the consequences will be severe.”
