Infrastructure submerges in flooding amidst torrential rains in southern India

In a chaotic scene in southern India’s Karnataka, infrastructure and vehicles were submerged as torrential rains led to widespread flooding.

The incident took place in the BTM Layout area of Bengaluru Urban district and the video went viral on October 21.

Visuals showed knee-deep water surrounding the area, where school buses stood still in long queues. The streets were deserted, as the conditions were too dangerous for travel.

According to reports, Bengaluru recorded 27.4 mm of rainfall, HAL Airport recorded 17.6 mm, Kempegowda International Airport recorded 41.4 mm, and GKVK recorded 40.4 mm in the 24-hour period leading up to Sunday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) cautioned that areas in western Bengaluru, such as RR Nagar, Kengeri, and Nagarabhavi, received even heavier rainfall. A forecast predicts cloudy skies with light to moderate rain for Monday.
