Escape bid ends in police gunfire in northern India, culprits apologize in pain after arrest
by Ekta ChaubeyIn a tense encounter in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, two culprits were shot while trying to flee and later apologized to the police in pain after being caught.
The incident took place near Handa Basehari canal of Bahraich district which is 20 km before the Nepal border, on October 17.
Visuals showed the culprits being supported by the police as they were led to a police jeep. The men, wounded from the gunshots, struggled to walk and rested their hands on the officers’ shoulders as they were taken away from the dense, remote area where they had tried to escape. One of the culprits, visibly in pain, repeatedly apologized to the police, expressing regret for his actions. Throughout the video, the culprits were seen in dialogue with the police as they were escorted.
According to reports, Rinku alias Sarfaraz Khan and Mohammad Taleem, accused of killing Ram Gopal Mishra, sustained serious leg injuries during the encounter. Both men had attempted to flee to Nepal before being stopped by the Special Task Force (STF) and Bahraich police. They are now receiving treatment at Bahraich Medical College. Sarfaraz was heard pleading for forgiveness as the police escorted him from the scene, admitting his wrongdoing.
Reports further revealed that three more individuals, including Sarfaraz’s brother Faheem, his father Abdul Hameed, and another associate, Mohammad Afzal, were arrested in connection with the case. The encounter occurred when the accused opened fire on the police, prompting retaliation that led to their capture.
