Stampede-like chaos in northern India as crowds surge ahead of Diwali Text:

A stampede-like situation erupted in the busy market of northern India’s Delhi due to the heavy footfall of shoppers ahead of the Diwali festivities.

The incident took place in Sadar Bazar in the North Delhi District, and the video went viral on October 16.

Visuals showed people struggling to navigate the packed market, with some balancing bags on their heads, while street vendors further narrowed the already crowded paths.

According to reports, police have since deployed teams in the area to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure order. A senior officer stated that due to the high footfall during the festival season, plans are being made to manage the crowd, with upcoming meetings involving the district magistrate, the market association, and MCD officials for better coordination.
