Firefighters successfully rescue stranded street dogs amid heavy rain in southern India

In a heartwarming display of compassion, firefighters have successfully rescued several street dogs left vulnerable in torrential rain in southern India’s Tamil Nadu. The heroic efforts highlight the dedication of local emergency services to protect all members of the community, including its four-legged residents.

 

The incident took place at Athasivam Street in Purasaivakkam area of Chennai and the video went viral on October 15. 

 

Visuals showed firefighters working diligently in a flooded area to rescue street dogs trapped in the rising water. In a scene filled with urgency and care, they gently placed the frightened dogs into a sturdy bag designed for safe transport. The firefighters, clad in bright orange uniforms, waded through the murky water, their faces reflecting determination and compassion. Each dog was cradled tenderly as they were lifted from the water, ensuring they were comfortable and secure. The atmosphere was a blend of chaos from the flooding and calmness from the firefighters’ careful handling, as they aimed to transport the dogs safely to a dry location, away from the dangers of the flood.

 

Amid the heavy rainfall in the state and more downpour forecasts for today, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced a holiday for schools and colleges in four districts on Tuesday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in the state. Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that schools and colleges will remain closed in four districts on Tuesday.

 

Amid the warning, the state has issued an advisory to all IT professionals to do work from home in the affected region from October 15-18, 2024.

 

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) issued a red alert in many parts of Chennai. The weather department predicted 20 cm of rain in a single day during the monsoon.
