Third leopard captured in northern India: forest department nets another predator

The incident took place at Bejha village in the Kakraha forest range, which is part of the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in the Bahraich district on October 9.
Visuals showed a solitary leopard confined within a sturdy metal cage, its powerful form pacing restlessly inside. Around the cage, a large crowd had gathered, their eyes fixed on the animal. Men, women, and children stood at a distance, murmuring with a mix of awe and curiosity. The cage was placed on a patch of dirt near a forested area, and the dense greenery of trees loomed in the background.
The capture took place late Wednesday night when the leopard walked into a cage that had been strategically placed by the forest department near the Bichpari intersection. The cage had been set up just two days earlier in response to concerns raised by locals, highlighting the presence of more leopards in the area.
The forest department has been actively monitoring the region after repeated leopard sightings were reported, raising safety concerns among residents. The captured leopard marks the third successful containment of the wild predator in this village alone, underscoring the region’s growing issue of wildlife intrusion. The authorities are planning further efforts to ensure the safety of villagers while preserving the wildlife in the area.
